Baby Pants & Knit or Crochet with Sheets or Make a Rag Rug

Ok does this not look like my "Blooming Flower Pillow" I just crocheted? Too cute and the pattern is available at Darling Derrere Designs

Rose Diaper Cover & Headband Pattern

--------------------------------------------------------
Make some yarn with your old sheets or pillow cases or even some t shirts...
Yarn From sheets, how to make, rag balls

How To do it is really simple: This is called the "spiral" method by "Creative Jewish Mom"
1st you need to remove all the edges or if you're using the fitted sheets then remove the elastic corners, cut and tear. This spiral method consists of mostly tearing. You'll start at one corner, cut a slit, about 1 inch or a little wiser.. Next you will be tearing down the long end of the sheet until you are about 1" from the end. Next you will simply turn the sheet, now this is the spiral part you will make a small slit with your scissors one inch from the edge in this new direction and start tearing down this side of the sheet until you again reach 1" from the next corner. Now continue to go around and around stopping at each corner to change direction until you've used up most of the sheet. Volia!! Spiral tearing.... :)
If you forget to stop at the corner and tear the strip off, don't worry just continue as you were and then  join the strips later, by following the instructions on "Creative Jewish Mom's"previous post here.

One of my favorite things to make are rugs, and I am about to start a "Rag Rug" but I want to make it with old t shirts, so this weekend I will be going to garage sales to get my t-shirts to tear up... yippy... Creative Jewish Mom has a tutorial on making one here:

When you crochet a rag rug there is no special talent need as you crochet the same as if you were using yarn, but thinking of what you want to use well try going by this thought:

Rag rugs can be made from a variety of fabrics such as wool, cotton, silk or rayon. It's best not to mix the kind of fabrics you're using to make any one rug because the shrinkage of material varies between woolens, cottons and silks. If you want a finer, softer rug, choose soft fabrics. Hard fabrics will result in a coarser rug.

Rag strips are used in various widths from 1/4 to 1 inch, depending on kind of rug and sturdiness desired. Wider strips can be used with raw edges turned under; the finished rug will be heavier and no raw edges will show on right side of rug.    How to tie together and join see here

Watch the video to learn more on making "Rag Rugs"

Some Supplies:
  • lots of rags, old worn clothes or sheeting (this one was pajama pants and vintage sheeting)
  • large crochet hook (for this I used a 11.5 size)
  • ruler
  • scissors

  • A little history on "Rag Rugs"....  specialty of women living in the country or on the frontier in 1890-1910 they got popular in the USA
  • T-shirt tutorial
  • some different "Rag Rug" patterns

What Did you Post 4 Years Ago????

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crochet Hand Puppet Scarf Ok I may have shown this before but it is just too cute not to show again, :)
free pattern too....I mean has any of us forgotten what we posted last year? 2 years ago? What about 4 years ago???

I think we should all go back and find a post from 3-4 years ago and "re-post it" after all we probably have lots of new "online" friends that have never seen it!

So here is my "re-post" from May 2009:

I had made this little tea bag cover for my neice, hmm time to make again....I even wrote "tea" in beads see it in the tag...

ohhh May 12, 2009  one of my favorite projects. I made a Chelsea cat from a photograph...it was a challenge..I still have to write up the pattern on this one. I have it in my notebook just haven't made it in pattern selling form.

I remember [Feb 2009] when I made this silly "Katamari" magnetic ball

And last year at this time
I had a few green projects like this green rug

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Had to sneak in this beautiful granny square afghan with the sweetest frilly edging, doesn't
just make the afghan the best?
See it over on Coco Rose Diaries blog....

Another "You Rock" Blog Feature

This Month's Feature "You Rock" Blog

"You Rock" blog posts are featured posts of recognition of "fantastic" blogs that I have visited and enjoyed reading. Some are about crochet; some are just plain funny; some are really interesting; and some are about the author's adventures.
I got the idea from "Simplfy" she had decided to post about other blogs she enjoyed visiting instead of issuing out Awards...and I thought how great of an idea this was!!! I mean I am always hopping all over to visit blogs and looking for cool new ones [does anyone say "cool" anymore????] and so I thought that this would be so nice to "spread the news" about blogs I have found to my followers.

I think that there are tons of blogs out there that deserve recognition and more traffic. Many never get visited that often, because they are just not known by us bloggers. I hope by featuring "You Rock" blog posts it will promote more "online" friends to connect with; and for you to learn and visit with some very interesting and talented bloggers.

So let's read about this month's "You Rock" blog! And after you read this feature be sure to hop over and visit with them. But, don't forget to let them know you heard about their blog over at Crochetoholic's "You Rock" blog feature!

Sometimes she uses some recycled objects to create lovely and fun ideas for decorating your home. I have made several of her designs and I like that she provides you easy to understand directions with lots of pictures!

If you have been following my blog you will see that is where I got the lovely "Blooming Flower Pillow" pattern I made this past month along with the cute "tuna can" plant holders.

She is very talented and uses a lots of color in her designs. This snake is adorable!

at my LYC meeting last Thursday I had to show off my Blooming Pillow

I made a granny square flower pot cover

and another flower pot cover in white

with some beads

a blue ruffle too

for St Patrick's Day

I made a t-shirt flower pin, a short tutorial coming on PBDesigns

Attic24 inspired me to make her tin can covers for my plants

I used my colored tape to tape the edges

decided my African Violets would love their new cover

doesn't it look cute

then I decided to go a step further and cover my water bottles that
I use for my sprouting

so I added a butterfly button

a little pink ruffle around the top see the water inside

thought about using it for my flower pens???

and added a little red sparkle

it looks so cute

heres what it looks like with out a cover

all snazzed up on my window shelf

now I need to make one for this other one

my smaller one on the shelf with plant in it
