Summer's Over Time to Crochet!

Well Summer is over and lots of kids are getting ready to go back to school, and moms and dads are out shopping and spending$$$ on clothes and school items....I am lucky to have no little ones at home anymore, so I have been doing a little Christmas Crochet....

The garland was really easy and I followed a few patterns I got the web and then I ventured out and made a different one for my football necklace.

I used Crochet cotton #3 and Glitter cotton thread, I then sc inbetween each bead and did  a chain 4, 2nd row I did 6sc in the 4sc chain, sc in each sc, around, then switched to the glitter thread and did sc in each sc and 3 sc in each sc between. It gives it a twisted appeal.... :)
I made some beaded garland and then decided to make a football necklace for football Mondays.. :) I also made a few cozy trims for my cup holders.
Here's the pattern:
Cup Holder Cozy Trim:
Small amount of cotton yarn any color
size H hook
clear drying craft glue
8 pony beads to match color of cup holder
cup holder

Chain about 33 st, join with ss in beginning chain [make sure it will fit around your cup holder], Row 1: ch 1, sc in each chain around, ss to join in 1st sc, Row 2: ch 2, dc in 1st sc,3 dc in same st, [sk 1 sc, sc in next sc, sk 1 sc, 4 dc in next sc] repeat around, join in 1st sc, pull yarn through, cut yarn leaving about 5-6" length, string on 4 beads alternating colors, string four beads onto beginning end of yarn, tie together and trim leaving about 2"
Push the ring onto your cup holder and squeeze a small line of glue around cup holder just where you want it to lay and then push ring over glue. Be sure you are using clear drying glue. Dry 24hrs before using.
Thats it your done! Make several in different colors to go on your cup holders and give them for presents or favors at a party or meeting.

Debbie Macomber, Gilda Radner, Gene Wilder Knitch and Projects....

I love Debbie Macomber's books and her knitting books....and her knitting club...she is very intune to a knitter/crocher's interests and since I am a mystery fanatic too...she hits my interests right on the button and never fails to intrigue me through her writings... :) I just read an interview she did with Knitch online magazine that was terrific...you need to read it if you haven't already..I was amazed at how many books she has in print 140+ WOW!!!!

I am a big fan of her Cedar Cove series and was extremely happy to see she knows about reader's desires to keep their favorite characters alive and not end the story...I think that is why so many sequeals are such a success. Once we love a story we want it to go on forever...like Harry Potter....oh don't get me started...anywho be sure to read it and if you haven't read any of her books hop over to Amazon and get one soon you won't be disappoionted....now I don't get anything for this plug in her favor I just adore reading her novels!!! :)

Another favorite of mine was Gilda Radner..I always loved her back in the 70s in Laugh-In....well Knitch did an article on her and low and behold Gene Wilder, [another one of my favorites]her widower, set up a club called Gilda's Club for free for info and surving cancer victems and their main hobby is knitting....wow...what a great idea...and they make a lot of the oh so popular "slouch" hats for their cancer victems...make one for them, I know I am... :)

Knitch also has FREE patterns like Cat Prints On My Heart Shawl and I love the Cat Lounger pattern... :)

Here are some of my newest projects that I finished....this headband and cuff bracelet set came from the patterns by Crochetology I love her patterns and stitches...

I love this pearl necklace that I got out of Annies which has had lots of magazines but this one was from Hooked on Crochet April 2005, I used a heart bead for the center and changed the pattern a bit to make it my own. :) Off to crochet some more...

Thanks for visiting and see ya next post....

Just too Cute!!!

I was visiting

An Excellent Write up On Copyright Rules!

I found this site on "COPYRIGHT RULES" and it is excellent. Everyone who doesn't know or even doubts a little should read this.....See this site for even more...

Lots of us "share" patterns with each other, and there is no harm if we do it only for personal use and not for selling or posting..

On email lists and bulletin boards, many crafters write about patterns still under copyright protection (even newly published) "Do you share?"
Can you "share" copies of patterns (this includes scanning, photocopies, emailing, posting to Bulletin Boards, any manner whatsoever)? The answer is NO if the pattern is still under copyright protection. [that means anything 1978 till now] The designer has the exclusive right to say how his/her patterns are distributed.
You should never distribute any pattern that's still under copyright protection in any way without the designer/publisher's written permission (crediting the designer doesn't make it all right for you to distribute those patterns without permission - you have to have the designers or publishers written permission.

Of course if the pattern is your own design or no longer under copyright protection then you can share with others...

How can you tell if a pattern is under copyright protection or not? These guidelines will help:

  • Anything that is written 1978 or later -
  • After 1978 - A work is copyright protected from the moment it is created, whether a copyright notice appears on it or not. Always remember that you  shouldn't assume that a work is up for grabs just because there is no copyright stated.
  • Very important to know is that if a pattern was created after January 1, 1978, the copy right protection lasts for designer's lifetime plus an additional 70 years after designer's death. Wow....
Expired Copyright -

  • Statutory copyright period has expired on works first published in the United States before the year 1923, placing these in the public domain, so it's ok to make copies of those works and share them. That is why you see so many "Vintage" patterns on the net for sale. I know I have bought several...:)
The above facts are just a basic guideline for determining the duration of copyright protection, always check first before sharing or posting and be sure and check here for more........

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day All!!!

I love Hankerchief Dolls... :) They are so cute...I have two that I ammaking for my g-daughters and so I thought I would post how to make one for those of you interested ...The History of the Handkerchief doll has been known for years they were known in churches as the "prayer" doll. Little Girls were given these dolls to take to church with them and if they dropped them there was no sound heard and therefore, would not disturb the rest of the congregation.

As time pasted other dolls were made at an early age and they were clled the "pillow case" doll and the "pioneer" doll. The first one being made very much like the handkerchief doll. After that we saw the famous Raggie Ann dolls. :) I love Mmmmcrafts dolls be sure to check out her desigsn too!!

  1. first off you will need 1 large man's hankie and we will add some pretty trim to the edges to make it a pretty doll.
  2. some soft material to form a head about 2"with a little cotton stuffing
3.  6 6" ribbons in any color you like
Directions:
Lay the handkerchief out to form a square. Take head after stuffed and put it at the center of the hanky just below the top. Wrap ribbon around neck area and the first step is completed
Next take tips of upper handkerchief one at a time and pull up from middle section of the point below. This will make the first arm. Tie a piece of ribbon at the shoulder joint. Repeat for 2nd arm.
The third step is the easiest. Take a piece of ribbon and tie it around the waist. This makes the hanky look like it has a body.
The last step is to make a face or not. Many times in old the dolls had what we call prayer faces. Closed eyes sewed on by hand with just a basic stitch. As time moved on in history of course doll faces became more involved.
These are the pillow case dolls....Then I found these lovely "Ribbon Dolls" and "Chain Dolls" they are so unique...And these "Birthday Dolls" are just the cutest...wow I have to make these...they are made with vintage hankies...

Crocheting Away....

I just finished this little "Ami" Red Robin, I used cotton thread and Sugar and Cream...I though these eyes with the eyelashes are the cutest!!!

Then I made a lizard bookmark with beads on its tail and back just for fun...

Been working on an afghan afor a friend and thinking of making a vintage snood that I just found a pattern for on line....they are so cute ever since I seen the gal from Crocodile Dundee, Linda Kozlowski. It was the scene when she took him to dinner at her house and she had a black snood holding her hair up. It looked so elegant and then I found one with beads...yummy!!

Some More Projects for my Shop

For one of the prizes at our "Ugly Sweater" party I made this row counter necklace..I really think it turned out wonderfully and it works just like the bracelets do..I crocheted the necklace with embroidery floss and used some beads I had around, if you look closely you can see I used alphabet beads inbetween which spelled out out group's name, Stitch n' Chicks... :) And the polka dot bead tells you which is the beginning end...

I also made a litttle booklet of sweater patterns for the gals....and decorated the cover with sweater photos ....

These are 3 row counter bracelets I made for my Etsy shop... :)
