Crochet Easter Egg Tree

I know this is after Easter, but I just found this "Easter Egg Tree" article and had to post it. It is amazing and if you look closely on one of the photos you will see a crochet one or tow... :)

A feast for the Easter Bunny, A German couple decorates their garden tree with almost 10,000 painted eggs, WOW....German pensioners Volker and Christa Kraft, have decorated the tree in their back garden in Saalfeld for Easter for more than 40 years, The tree now drips with more than 9,800 colorful Easter eggs, painted with pastoral scenes and religious icons...Each egg is painstakingly emptied of yolk and white to ensure it doesn't go bad before it can be hand-painted and hung, she says that you can use a syringe to push through just one hole to extract the gooey stuff but be cautious when handling raw eggs they may carry salmonella...
Its the Symbol of life:
Carefully packed and intricately decorated Easter eggs lie waiting to be hung from the Kraft tree
The egg is a pagan symbol of rebirth, widely used in spring festivals before its adoption by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus, For followers of Christianity they are symbolic of Christ rising from his tomb two days after his death on the cross, In ancient times the Zoroastrians painted eggs for Nowrooz, their New Year celebration, which falls on spring equinox

Sculptures in the ruins of Persepolis, their capital, show people carrying eggs to their king for the occasion 2500 years ago

After their kids moved out of the house, it seemed the Easter Tree would finally catch a break but grandsons arrived and the Krafts went back to decorating their giant tree The number of Easter eggs hung by the tree’s branches grew every year and in 2010 it reached an incredible 9,500 eggs.

Don't tell the Easter Bunny! Heike Lutz, right, visits the Krafts' tree together with her son Anton Lutz, in her arms, and her daughter Luna Lutz, centre

  1. Oh my word! Don't tell me they take these down and hang them all back up again EVERY YEAR???!.. But then I can't imagine all these beautiful eggs just out in the elements all year either, without getting ruined! Well the eggs are amazing nonetheless! LOVED both the crocheted and painted ones! What a sight, up close, I'm sure!.. As for taking a break from blogging? Well, I for one hope you won't, and I'm sure I'm not alone about that. But I'm with you.. There just aren't as many comments as there used to be, coming in on my blog either. I think this probably goes for a LOT of people, as I'm SURE Facebook, and Pinterest are stealing much, if not most of the limelight now! I still haven't jumped on the FB wagon yet, but am starting to buckle under the pressure, only because I'm getting left out of a lot of activities/events now, and can't even print out a darn coupon if I'm not on FB! I may set up a very private (as Possible) account soon, just for those reasons alone, but my primary focus will STAY on my blog. I admit, time is always a crunch. I don't get to post or comment NEARLY as much as I'd like. But posts, few as they may be, and comments or no comments, I'm content with what I share/experience with Blogger well enough.. And frankly, I've really become annoyed the the phrase "Like Me". My gosh, I'm even seeing it on the welcome signs to CHURCHES!!! I just can't believe it when I see it!... Well, you have to do what's right for you, but I hope you'll keep blogging, and that you'll keep in touch too! ((hugs)) ~tina

  3. LOL I know there are sooo many eggs you wonder how they stay ok and the weather doesn't break them? Oh yes I am on FB but I am not on there often, it is just too much to do and not enough hours. and Pinterest I am on but not really sure what exactly its for other than storing a lot of photos and for what???? People just get on these kicks and go hog wild for awhile and then stop, so hopefully they'll be back to blogging? Like Me on churches signs....oh no!!! thank you Tina for the comments and hope that people out there would miss me. :) ~~Debb
